Remote Area Rescue

05/10/2021 Georgetown Fire Department along with Garden Valley Fire, El Dorado County Fire, Cal-Fire, El Dorado County Animal Control and CHP H20 coordinated an effective remote area rescue 2.25 miles in from the trail head at the Loon Lake Campground. A hiker with his 2 dogs were returning from a 5 day hike of Desolation Wilderness. The hiker slipped and fell causing a lower leg injury that left him stranded. The hiker was able to signal for help using his GPS with Satellite up link and give his coordinates and extent of injuries and that he had 2 dogs. CHP H20 was able to locate the hiker from the air then landed at the Loon Lake Boat Ramp to reconfigure. Once reconfigured H20 took a firefighter from El Dorado County Fire to assist in getting the hiker to H20 back to the boat ramp to meet with Medic 61 for transport to a local hospital. The El Dorado County firefighter then walked the 2 dogs out to the trail head for Animal Control for transport to the owners home in El Dorado County.
