Georgetown Fire Department responded to a fire at Georgetown School yesterday

The Georgetown Fire Department (GFD) was called to the Georgetown School at 4:25 p.m. yesterday for a reported structure on fire.  Crews arrived to find a classroom building with smoke coming from the interior.  The school and Boys and Girls Club had evacuated prior to GFD’s arrival.

Crews quickly determined the fire was confined to an Air Conditioning Unit in the classroom.  Power was shut off to the building and crews evacuated all smoke using a ventilation fan.  There was no damage to the structure.

GFD was assisted by Garden Valley Fire, Cal Fire and El Dorado County Fire Departments.  GFD had 10 personnel on scene.

The scene was turned over to school officials on the scene and they advised that school would not be interrupted today.

I continue to be impressed with my department, partner agencies and our community. The school did a great job of evacuating and being available to the fire department. Georgetown Fire had a great response with 10 personnel and assistance from several of our fire service partners.
